Welcome to my website. I will try to keep it up to date with events in the Whanganui Region and wider. The Whanganui Region is really unique in New Zealand. A land of many rivers, flowing from the mountains to the sea, it is covered with thick native forest throughout much of the up country region and lush green farmland for most of the rest. The Whanganui River was the main north-south transport link before roads were built and came to be known as ‘the Rhine of New Zealand in the 19th century, when paddle steamer cruises were advertised in London, England. A great provincial city with a strong agricultural services industry, it also has niche industries in the creative arts, engineering and general manufacturing. The huge potential of Whanganui/Wanganui springs from its strong bicultural Maori and European traditions, with new migrants increasingly coming in from other parts of the world.
